Pravasi Odia Vikas Samiti (POVS) is a not for profit socio-cultural organization. It was createdby some nationalist non-resident Odias who regularly met and discussed about the state of non-resident Odias and resident Odias and how they will live a comfortable and dignified lifeand their contribution to the Development of Odisha and the Nation. In the year of 2012 it was shaped and registered in 2014 in New Delhi vide registration number district east/society/1451/2015. POVS connects the Odia diaspora staying beyond the boundary of Odisha to be tuned with the root and assimilate with the heritage, tradition, culture, literature, history and present day development. It mobilises the intent of the people for the development of the Odias and diaspora beyond Odisha.

Today, POVS is a strong organization with 5000 or more individual and family members. Thisis possible due to individuals stepping forward to support different activities with innovative ideas which, when implemented, benefit us all. The organization has now spread into major cities in India and abroad, which operate as a social umbrella for different regions in India and the world. The chapters arrange various activities such as religious festivals, social get together, cultural events and participate in the cultural life of the local community as representatives of Odia culture. Besides these, the annual Pana Sankranti Karyakram, which happened to be Odia New Year, is the centerpiece of the organization’s activities.

Pravasi Odia Vikas Samiti (POVS) is an organization whose stated goals are to promote the culture of the Indian state of Odisha throughout the world, facilitate the development of Pravasi Odias and Odisha and contribute in the progress of the Individual and the State to facilitate the exchange of information between Odisha and the World.

It is a democratic set up organization and in every two years the election for the body takes place where the members elect the Executive Committee and from the Executive Members the Office bearers get elected.

AIMS & OBJECTIVES

The basic objective of the society is to promote and protect the interest of the people of India in general and Odias and Odisha in particular with the active participation of people residing outside Odisha. The society is determined to work independently or in collaboration or with the help of Central and State governments, NGOs and other appropriate agencies for formulation implementation and execution of various programmes to achieve its objectives with a nationalistic, spiritualistic and humanistic (lifie Vedantic) approach and practice.

  1. To place the Odias and their culture in the continuous process of national integration & nationalism by promoting, spreading and protecting the languages, literatures, cultures, customs and traditions of
  2. To raise voice against any anti-social and anti-nationalist activities in general and to fight for the protection and rights of Odia people living in and outside Odisha in
  3. To promote literacy and education by integrating the traditional knowledge system of India in general and Odisha in particular with the modern scientific techniques and

  2. conducting seminars, conferences, workshops, study tours and talks;
  3. conducting researches in various areas;
  4. providing scholarships;
  5. developing library and online database;

  1. Establishing, managing and maintaining different types of medical institutions (Eg. charity hospitals );
  2. Conducting health related seminars, conferences, workshops, study tours Surveys and talks etc;
  3. Promoting researches in various health related disciplines;
  4. Conducting health and awareness camps and campaigns (ex. blood donation Camps) and maternal health awareness campaigns etc;
  5. Establishing mobile medical units;
  6. Developing human resources in both rural and urban areas by training and skill Development etc;

To achieve this the society will undertake the work like:

 

  1. Knowledge and skill development in relation to various sectors like industrial, financial, managerial and trade and commerce ;
  2. Establishing, managing and maintaining different types of vocational and other related institutions (ex. polytechnics and ITI ;
  3. Conducting job related seminars, conferences, workshops, study tours, job fairs craft melas and talks ;
  4. Promoting cottage industries, handlooms, crafts etc.;
  5. Promoting researches in various interdisciplinary subject in relation to job promotion;
  6. Developing human resources in both rural and urban areas by training and skill development etc and other activities.
  1. To safeguard the environment and protect the ecosystem by promoting sustainable relationships between nature and
  1. Creating awareness on environment, sustainable development, man-nature relationship (eg. awareness campaign on pollution etc.), various forms of renewable energies and go green initiatives;

  2. Promoting all types of sports and sportspersons by training and sponsorship ;
  1. Empowering and emancipation of women by promoting girls education, preventing female feticide, skill development for women, self-help groups, women protection, women self defense, campaign against dowry

In achieving all the above points first and special privileges will be given to the socially, financially, physically and sexually weaker section of the society. The society has every right to promote its activities by providing financial help, publication of literature and other forms of advertisements. The society is determined to open its branches and chapters in other places wherever and whenever it feels necessary.

All the incomes, earnings, movable properties of the society shall be solely utilized and applied towards the promotion of its aims and objectives only as set forth in the Memorandum of the society and no profit there of shall be paid or transferred directly or indirectly by way of dividends, bonus, profits or in any manner whatsoever to the present or the past members of the society or to any person claiming through any one or more of the present or the past members. No members of the society shall personally claim on any movable or immovable properties of the society or make any profits whatsoever by virtue of their membership except in form of salaries and stipend to the staff and employees of the POVS.

Initiatives to achieve the objectives :

 

The programme of the POVS serves to bring together people with roots in Odisha to share the pride and Glory in Odia culture and heritage and pass it on to the next generation. Also create a sense of belongingness with the heritage of Odisha and push them for the development of Odia and Odisha. To achieve thisv the POVS doing the following:-

  1. Publishes Magazine with articles on the Socio- economic-cultural-industrial- which is widely read and highly

  3. Organises seminars and webinars on the different relevant issues and suggest the Local and the state government to take action on the

  5. Suggesting and linking the Industrial Growth in Odisha and
  6. Renders expert advisory services to the seeker on issues relating to
  7. Interacts with   various   State  and   Central   Government  on   Policies and
  8. Undertakes benevolence of
  9. Bestows Awards to Odias or who worked for the Odias for Excellence in different
  10. Charak project to facilitate the poor Odias who come to Delhi for
  11. Studying the challenges faced by the Enterpreneurs in different stages of business in collaboration with center for marketing in emerging economies, in Indian Institue of Management (IIM),
